Luke Martin disappointed after first two races Empty Luke Martin disappointed after first two races

Luke Martin, 18 time Sony Cup Series winner came into 2017 pumped more than ever about driving for Turner Fenway Racing looking for any way to finally close the deal and grab the championship of the series that has alluded him all his career. Martin has came runner up to winning the championship 5 times in his career. That's a quarter of the time Martin has finished 2nd in the overall standings.

Turner Fenway Racing jumped to a 4 car team this year snatching up Martin. The team's combo of drivers looks good however Luke Martin starting off the year has had all sorts of problems. Despite running well in the Sony Shootout, Martin slammed the wall in his Duel Qualifier at Daytona and had to rely on speed to make the race, had engine problems in the Daytona 500 putting him a few laps down just before the race started, and at Rockingham this past weekend Luke Martin's #6 ford yet again had engine problems but this time it was catastrophic taking him out of the race and finishing dead last in the 42nd position.

Turner Fenway Racing has been use to the 3 car combination for the past 2 seasons but adding this extra car to the team for the races... The team seems to be struggling to provide the same reliable power to the table for all cars at the track. Luke Martin one of the pioneers of the series hasn't had the start of the year he's been looking forward to. He's currently 36th in standings, 60 points back. We have a very long ways to go in this year. A driver that hasn't started a race this year technically could come in and still have a shot to come back. Way too early to beat yourself up, but Martin does have a ways to go to get back up the chart.

Martin told the press after Rockingham, "This season has been great so far from the team owning stance, Jeff winning this weekend definitely is the high for this weekend. Extremely proud of my whole team and how hard they work to be the best they can be. We are going to be hard to beat this year. As for me, the driver, terrible season so far. I hope TFR turns their program around and gives me a car I can finish the race with. Nobody likes having to bring it in before the green flag or blowing up before half way. This team is good and we will comeback from it but definitely not happy about the first two races that I haven't been given the stuff to compete with so far."

Hopefully he won't get kicked after two races like some people in 2015?

For the record, I just like to joke about that situation now. I like Martin, and I think he'll turn it around before the end of 2017. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Heck no. Luke's with us for the full season. And yeah, he's just getting struck with a silly amount of bad luck to kick off the season. But I know his time will come soon enough to shake the dust off and win some races soon.
