After finishing 22nd in main season standings in 2016 with HorizonGroup in his first season with them... Matthew Rodriguez in 2017 has struggled to find good luck. Despite a couple of runs inside the Top 10, Rodriguez has struggled to get his #77 HorizonGroup Dodge inside the Top 10 and to be a winning team. Matthew Rodriguez sits 25th in the points after 13 races (116 points back to the point leader). For a second straight year, Rodriguez is outside the Top 20 in points with a team that had one of their drivers inside the Top 5 in main season points all 2016 last year (that driver being Dillon Young).

Matthew Rodriguez: "I'm thankful for HorizonGroup allowing me to drive for them. We have had some ups and downs. We won last year but with the direction the team is going, we're not competitive and it's not where I want to be in my career. I want to be competing for wins, be in the top 10, get a good qualifying start. The team is going the wrong direction and I have done all I can. I need to see if I can't find better options somewhere else."

Matthew Rodriguez has 6 career victories in his name and the Season 14 Daytona 500 Champion. Rodriguez will make his 50th start for HorizonGroup this weekend at Talladega. He has accumulated 1 win, 4 top 5's and 10 top 10's in his 49 starts currently since the start of the 2016 season.
