Eric Burton is a household name of the Sony Cup Series. Burton joined the series as a rookie in Season 9 and went on to win 5 races and beat Nick Mace for the championship. His 5 wins that season (at time time) was the most wins anyone had ever won in a single season ever. At this moment, Burton proved to everyone around him that he is going to be tough competition for many years to come.

Fast forward 10 seasons later, Eric Burton in 2015 made the move to own his team of Swagger Motorsports. The team failed to be a title contending race team however Burton hovered around 10th-15th in points all year having respectable runs and was able to find victory lane twice at Las Vegas and Willow Springs.

Heading into 2016, Burton joined up with Turner Fenway Racing while still owning his team but driving somewhere else. He had high hopes of being a title contender again driving his fame old #16 ford yet again. However, Burton in 2016 failed to win a race but finished inside the Top 10 in main season points while competing inside the Top 5 in points a lot of the season. Despite a lot of consistent runs in 2016, Burton was let go for Turner Fenway Racing.

2017 Burton was called up from Athenian Motorsports to help try and build it's organization in winning races. Athenian Motorsports won in 2016 with Levi Pascoe but Eric Burton found it difficult in 2017 to find speed in his #31 Chevy all year long. Athenian Motorsports failed to bring any of it's drivers a win in 2017 and was the only team that won a race in 2016 that didn't win in 2017. Meanwhile, Levi Pascoe and Charlie Smith both finished runner-up in 2017 but Eric Burton failed to make any noise when it came to battling for a win.

Eric Burton finished Homestead 15th and finished the year 23rd in the final standings. This is the lowest Eric Burton has ever finished in points over his entire career. Burton near the end of the year took over the ownership of Athenian Motorsports and now Eric Burton will head into 2018 as an owner/driver again for the first time since 2015 which was the last time he's won a race as well.

Since becoming the new owner of Athenian Motorsports, Burton signed on 2016 Hardee's National Series Champion, Sean Harple to drive the #31 Chevy the same car Burton drove this past year. PJ Williams got the nod from Burton to return to the Cup Level and drive for Athenian Motorsports in the #3 Chevy. Levi Pascoe who was the last driver to drive Athenian Motorsports into victory lane... Pascoe will return for his 3rd season in Cup with the same team he joined his rookie year with as he looks to return back to victory lane. Eric Burton will return to his #95 car the same number he drove in 2015 when he last won in the Sony Cup Series as he looks to better Athenian Motorsports heading into 2018.
