Beyond The Pitbox: Bradley Bishop Jr

Post by McBlair on January 3rd 2016, 4:31 pm

OCC: This is a new series I started. Basically, it's the backstory of drivers, crew chiefs, teams, team owners, etc...

Bradley Carter Bishop, also known as Bradley Bishop Jr was one of three breakout drivers in 2015. He is currently 17 years old, and was born on March 16th to Bradley Bishop and Tina Bishop. He was born in Oshawa, Ontario. He has 2 brothers named Prince Bishop (18), and Benjamin Bishop (14). He also has 2 sisters named Abigail Bishop (12) and Stacy Bishop (9). He is in fact related to Randy McBlair (Uncle), Samantha McBlair (Aunt), and Andrew McBlair (Cousin).

Bradley first started his passion for racing when at 4 years old when he discovered Season 9 of the Sony Cup Series. His favourite driver at the time being the legend himself Luke Martin. He watched every race of every season up until he was 7 years old. At that age he participated in his go-kart race, that being the annual Oshawa Go-Kart Championship Tourney, he joined the 9 and under category obviously. Bradley ended up dominating the race but placed 14th due to mechanical issues in his go-kart.

Following this incident he started doing this tourney every year until he was 13 years old. At 8 years old Bradley won his first OGKC race and placed 4th in the entire tournament. When he was 10 years old and had to move into the 10-14 category he brought home his first OGKC podium placing 2nd and at age 11 he won his first OGKC championship. That same year Bradley got an offer to participate in the ARCSOA developmental challenge so his family packed up their things and moved out to Florida, USA. This challenge ended up being cancelled so the Bishop's basically moved countries for no reason.

Bradley never quit though, he joined competitions like the Florida State Stock Car Challenge at age 14. Basically in this drivers get tutored by famous stock car drivers and they use the skills they've earned out on the track. Bradley was tutored by SCS veteran Nick Pericles which was an honour to him. Sadly, Bradley had to drop out of the FSSCC early and move back to Oshawa because his dad was diagnosed with the late stages of Esophageal Cancer. That same year, right when Bradley turned 15 his dad passed away in the hospital. That's when Bradley quit stock car racing... Well he planned to at least.

He was 16, and hadn't raced for two entire years. He did have depression because his dad taught him everything about racing and helped him through almost everything in life and now his dad was gone. He did do therapy, and it helped because in 2 months he was back on the track and got an offer from Crayola Inc. asking if he would like to race Daytona in one of their cars and of course he accepted.

He never qualified and later that year broke the contract with Crayola Inc in hopes of pursuing more racing things. That worked to as Ravenwest Motors picked him up and gave him a contract to drive the #21 in the Indy 500 where he got his first stock car top 10. After this Luke Martin, his childhood hero, asked him to be on their 2016 team and be their parttime driver for the rest of 2015. With no doubt in his mind he accepted, and did amazing in the #11 car which coincidentally his FSSCC tutor Nick Pericles used to drive. Bradley also got hired as Titanium Motorsport's new CEO!

In late 2015, right before the New Year he got kicked from his #01 car on Martin Motorsports. But Luke Martin meant no harm by this, he actually got Bradley Bishop Jr to go race for his team which is partnered with Martin Motorsports so in the end of the day Bradley is still running on Martin Motorsports engines which is totally fine by him.

And recently, Bradley actually went with the Martin Motorsports drivers to see a Make-A-Wish child who got to design a second design for Bradley's #03 car. But that's another article Wink

That is the life of Bradley Bishop Jr leading up to right now!

Okay McBlair, that was the one of the best stories you've ever posted!
I mean it had a positive theme, but you also had your moments of drama as well which was great.

And... You weren't supposed to spoil the Make-A-Wish thing yet. Dangit McBlair Razz

Sorry but didn't Bishop actually finish 11th at Indy? Had to ask.
