Jeff James Inc. will be leased off after Talladega

From 2016 to 2017 we seen one of our past champions revived in his career, yes I am talking about Dom Caps as he went from failing to qualify for races to nearly winning races and a championship! From 2017 to 2018... we have seen nearly the exact same thing but in reverse... Jeff James every year from 2015-2017 was a consistent title threat and winning races but after making the move to own his own race team the transition has been rough to say the least...

Jeff James went from on top of his game to struggling to make races. With an alliance with Mace Enterprises, Mace Enterprises has had to put a lot of effort into their race team to help get them going and many argue that the effort from Mace Enterprise pouring so much effort into JJI thats it's also hurt Mace Enterprises!

Jeff James earlier this week reportedly leased his race team back to Mace Enterprises. This means Jeff James is leasing back all the assets of their engines, cars and everything Mace Enterprises helped get them on their feet. JJI is reportedly going to close shop due to sponsorship struggles as their main sponsors were only races away from pulling their sponsors.

This move was to help keep Jeff James from going completely bankrupt as he was having to pay out of pocket more than he expected.

So this means after Talladega, Jeff James and Charlie Smith won't have a full time ride and it's reported that Jeff James is taking this as his chance to step away from the Sony Cup Series. This would be a big hit to the sport if one of the biggest names stepped away as Jeff James has won more races in the series than anyone ever since the 2015 Season. Surely the fans will hope James finds a ride but reports have it after Talladega he plans to take time off to be with his family.

Perkins: "The current system is a problem"

Sean Perkins has been very outspoken this season against the current management of the Sony Cup Series. Today is no exception. "Jeff James has done EVERYTHING he could to solidify the basis of his team. However, it is impossible to start up a team now. It's almost like a country club. The established teams have ALL the funding in the world, and swipe up a lot of sponsorship and funding. Because of that, none of the smaller teams have ANY chance to develop a team," Perkins stated.

He closed with, "What SCS needs to do is limit teams to a 3 car maximum. It's a drastic decision that all the man-children that run the large teams will complain about. But for the future success of new teams. It's what needs to happen. However, I know, Nick Mace and crybaby Luke Martin will complain about that because they are losing their power over the series."
