The Rule Book Empty The Rule Book

Post by Rykia April 19th 2013, 11:48 pm

07.01.2016 - The forum rules have been amended and overhauled due to recent incidents that have taken place.  A punishment system will be added soon in order to fairly deal with those who break the rules.  In addition, some of the rules may be altered in the coming days.

INDEX

I.) GENERAL FORUM RULES
II.) IN-CHARACTER RULES
III.) CHATBOX RULES
IV.) INFRACTION SYSTEM

I.) GENERAL FORUM RULES
These are the rules for Offline Host as a whole. These rules are fairly basic and involve proper general forum etiquette and how users should behave on a forum.  These rules are fairly laxed and shouldn't be too difficult to follow.

Be respectful.
-This is a basic social skill that should be followed, especially on this forum.  Offline Host should be a user-friendly place where people shouldn't expect to be blasted.  Of course, debating and small arguing is going to happen at some point, but rude and disruptive arguments should be avoided at all costs and may result in infraction points being given.

Do NOT Backseat Admin.
-Helping a fellow user is always appreciated and welcome.  However bossing other users around, pointing out when they're wrong/breaking rules, or other similar instances should not happen.  It's the job of the admins to correct users who are breaking rules, and should be the admin's jobs only.  Questioning whether something is breaking a rule ins't considered backseat admining, however.

Respect the Final Admin or Moderator Decisions.
-Within this forum, we have an admin, global moderators, and topic moderators, or contributors, who control their own forum.  These users do hold authority in their respected areas, and any final decisions should be respected.  Of course suggesting or lobbying for a different outcome in most cases should be fine, however users should not bash a moderator or admin for a decision made.

Flaming should NEVER occur in ANY instance.
-For those who don't know, flaming (similarly to Ad Hominem) is attacking someone instead of their argument.  This sort of falls under the 'Be Respectful' category.  Flaming includes insulting others, calling them names, etc..., and should never take place in the forum.  This is one rule that will NOT be taken lightly when broken.  Name-calling and insults in-character (IE: driver to driver) is acceptable (for now).

Limit the cursing.
-Because of the nature of the forum and a good portion of the active users being younger teenagers, cursing should be limited a little bit.  We'll never say anything like "NO CURSING ALLOWED", but we also don't need the F-bomb dropped every other post.  Punishments may vary for violation of this.

NO sexually explicit images/videos/etc...
-This should be a PG-13 forum at most.  Please do not post any images, videos, or any other explicit material that would violate this.  Violation of this will more than likely earn you an immediate ban, depending on the degree.

Do NOT make multiple accounts.
-Making multiple accounts for any reason is strictly prohibited and could result in a permanent ban.  Us admins do know how to check IP addresses, so don't push this one.  If you for some reason are locked out of your original account, you may post in the Site Feedback forum as a guest and ask for assistance there.

II.) IN-CHARACTER RULES

Do NOT control other characters/teams.
-When in-character, you should not attempt to make decisions for another team/driver.  This one should be fairly easy to follow.  Mutual decisions are fine, however we had one particular incident lately where this occurred.

Have fun with your characters!
-When creating your characters, give them personalities, have fun with them!  This obviously won't endure a punishment.

III.) CHATBOX RULES
These rules mirror the forum rules and are generally less strict.

Although the chatbox is part of the forum and should follow the general forum rules, these rules will be enforced less lightly than others.

IV.) INFRACTION SYSTEM
With the forum restructuring comes a new system to moderate users--the infraction system.  The way the infraction system will work is pretty simple.  If you break a rule, you will receive an infraction, should the rule you broke warrant it.  All infractions will be dealt by Rykia, and they may or may not be made public.  Should a user receive 7.5 INFRACTION POINTS, they will be placed on PROBATION.  If they reach TEN OR MORE INFRACTION POINTS, they will receive A BAN OF VARIED LENGTH.  Infraction points will not reset after a timed ban has been completed, and racking up more infraction points will result in longer bans.  A general breakdown of the infraction system can be seen below.

Incessant Cursing: 0.25-2 POINTS
Incessant Arguing with Fellow Users: 0.25-2 POINTS
Backseat Adminning: 0.5-2 POINTS
Incessant Arguing with Moderators or Admins: 0.5-3 POINTS
Flaming: 1.5-5 POINTS
Multi-accounting: 4-10 POINTS
Posting Sexually Explicit Material: 2.5-10 POINTS (may also result in a perma-ban)

I feel the in-character rules may be handled without infraction points.  If anyone has any questions, concerns, etc., feel free to shoot me a PM on the forum or on Skype regarding the system.

For now I’ll say points will reset every four months.  Additions, changes, or subtractions will be done when needed.

-Be respectful.  This should be a user-friendly forum, and users being rude towards others will not be tolerated.

-No flaming/name-calling.  Heated debates are just fine.  What we don't want is people being hateful and flaming others or calling them names.

After a certain recent event, I would just like to reiterate this.
