Swagger Motorsports Possilby Go Out Of Business?

Post by FUEL on September 2nd 2016, 12:02 pm

Swagger Motorsports has stated that they will be losing their sponsors if they are not able to finish inside the top half of the field at Darlington... Meaning Swagger Motorsports need to finish in the Top 20 this weekend. What does this do for the team? Well... that means they might be forced to close doors of their operations early. Arris, Sports Clip, and Farmers Insurance is the only reason this team is going on. The team sits 35th and 37th in points. Their sponsors plan on leaving at seasons end but have recently been noted that they will stop funding if the team doesn't do better for their product on the car. Gallighan and Culpepper have a big job ahead of them come Darlington because Eric Burton owner of the team (who finished 15th in main points last year driving for the teams only car) said that "If we lose sponsorship we might as well close doors early. No need in wasting more money from my pocket since we are planning on closing at seasons end. This year really was a big bankruptcy in the team. We have countless amount of cars (16 wrecked cars) that we have lost so much money this team can barely go on. If we don't have the funds from our sponsors to pay off the stuff we need to go to the track then I'm going to have to let go my employees at the shop and have Gallighan and Culpepper find else where to race because without our sponsors at this point we are nothing."

Notes: Swagger Motorsports this season has wrecked 16 race cars in 27 races. The #95 car is the only car to have any top 10s this year (2 times) and the #59 car has wrecked out 10 times this year and has been the only car to led a lap for the team this year leading only 2 laps. The #59 team has made every race so far this season however the #95 team has failed to qualify for 8 races. The team has been through 4 drivers over the course of the season, Dom Caps, Matt Duncan, Shaun Gallighan and David Culpepper. Last year at this time the team had a win at Las Vegas with team driver and owner Eric Burton sitting 15th in points. Basically this team has sit rock bottom so hard this year that it might not make it pass Darlington.

Cavy: If this is so, some charters will be open idk for expanding teams or creating single car teams, looking forward to 2017!

No charters. Plan on sticking to the Top 35 rule. Just if it does happen it would move the #14 SUMS Racing Toyota into the Top 35 in Owner Points.

I'd probably do the same.

They weren't going to be on the grid for next year anyways though so it doesn't matter if they do or don't.

I thought Burton could use this as a chance to downsize to a 1-car team so he could do the owning/driving. Guess not though.

Swagger Motorsports we've heard has lost it's main sponsors and plan on not running in New York but plan on coming back at Ohio with associate sponsors helping the team.
