How Should DAYTONA 500 Qualifying Be Done?
This one is for you to decide. We will have about 50 drivers attempting for 42 spots in the 21st Annual DAYTONA 500 for the Sony Cup Series season opener of 2017. However, we have single car qualifying at the Indy 250 earlier this year in a qualifying video that last about an hour long. We plan on doing single car qualifying for the DAYTONA 500 as well this time around, no group qualifying.
However, do you guys want to have an hour long video to watch or just highlights of qualifying. Would you rather see every car qualify, like an old school NASCAR Bud Pole Qualifying video or just a short sum up 5-10 min video of what happened.

30 minutes of the big dogs and the upsets individual runs. That way it's still a substantial video. I see no need in over a hour because the Duels will decide how the field is set.

Half the field into groups A (odd places) and B (even places) based on the owners' points from this season (25 cars Apiece). Group A goes out for 15 minutes and the top 5 determines 1st to 9th (odd number positions). Group B goes out for 15 minutes and the top 5 determines 2nd to 10th (even number positions).
This is done so there will be one duel that will take 32 cars into the main field out of their 40.
That also makes the duel the most Daytona 500-esque race but be aware, if you decide to not be the 5th fastest you may not make the show. This format works with a max of 54 cars. I like Yamp's idea a lot, I just had that idea in mind when I saw the thread.

Something about the DAYTONA 500 makes it so prestigious. We race for 500 miles, 200 laps. The video will more than likely be an hour long with racing action you wont see all season long. The fight to win the biggest Sony Cup Series race ever is on. I think it would be appropriate to go all out and show this is no ordinary race... This is about marking your name in the history books as a winner of the DAYTONA 500. Only some of the best have been able to accomplish it and even some of the best drivers we've ever seen race in the SCS haven't been able to figure out how to get to victory lane...
I think showing all the cars go out in single car qualifying being 1 hour long... lining up how they'll go racing in the duels, who locks themselves in early, who wins the front row starting positions... Its the start of the 2017 year. Speedweeks is a big deal to the SCS. It's our Super Bowl. I think we should do it, if people are willing to get behind it and support it.

I loved the hour video of the Indy 250 Qualifying. I would like to see it happen in the Daytona 500 Qualifying

Bunnell will run the Daytona 500, if you didn't already know. I think this format will be a good way to show off everyone in the field, not just the 10-15 drivers that have the best equipment.

I agree with Fitzwater. Showing each individual car during the Indy 250 Quals was pretty cool. And it helps to build a storyline for the rest of speedweeks. Also, having a Co-Commentaor(s) would be great!

Copy the old fashioned Indianapolis 500 Qualifying system... Bump day and all!

I pick showing each driver that's out there, maybe not both laps, but it was cool to do that in the Indy race this season so it would carry over really well.

I'm not going to lie, but Indy Qualifying, should stay at Indy. We need to not have qualifying judge where your spot is. I want to see a speedweeks thing. Duels to decide where you officially are at and make it in or not. It's just me, if it's not broke, you NEVER mess with it.

Here's my thing. The race will then need to be longer than qualifing, and as well as the duels.
