IRLS MasterCard Championship Series: Season Preview: Teams & Drivers
...We've come to this point in the years of the IRLS. From the days of NARL, to the decline and the fall of NARL. To the cash in by Antonov, and the MasterCard title. Multiple champions, history being made. Even this season. After the dust settled from 2015, Greg Harris defeated the likes of James Shelly, Tristan Wilhoit, and Charles Sandfer in the Final 4 going into Auto Club. The King without a Crown had his in the last race of his career. With that being said, a new dust cloud must form as now the King has his Crown and is gone like the wind. Drivers from North and South America, Australia, Asia, and Europe must all vie for a spot in the Playoff system once more. Details of how it works will be specified later as the schedule will be realized sometime soon. But for now, meet the grid for 2016, and their teams.
(The) Empire Motorsports-Chevy
1-McDonald's/Cessna-Evan Syndal-Indiana
2-Pepsi Products-Zachery Fitzwater Sr.-Australia
12-Lowe's-Leon Johnson-Colorado
22-Verizon-Julio Garcia Montoya-Columbia
'The Empire' was a dominant force leading up to the Playoffs but yet by mechanical problems plaguing the team has caused them to be eliminated in the first round as a whole. A sad, but surprising truth. The thing is though, the team has a bad image. Not the drivers and the crews. But management surely has a sitck up their behind. Claming they will 'own' everyone in the paddock. With guys the likes of Zachery Fitzwater Sr., and Julio Garcia Montoya. Champions in their respected native series in Australia and South America they might as well have some know it all for Evan Syndal, Leon Johnson, the 2013-2014 Champion to help translate.
Toyota Racing Developments-Toyota
4-GCI-Tristan Wilhoit-Alaska-sent
5-Monster Energy-Eric Addams-Ohio
16-Puma-Kel Boga-Turkey
96-Gulf-Mian Ai Long-China
Toyota Racing Developments helped paved the road to their almost championship win with Wilhoit by amazing odds. But only Wilhoit made it to the dance, last season's Rookie of the Year winner Eric Addams did nothing close to him. The team has opened up two more slots for some international flair. Returning Turkish Kel Boga makes his return with TRD as former Open-Wheel phenom Mian Ai Long makes her return to the IRLS after her dismal rookie year.
NorseSport-Toyota
13-Home Depot-Joey Stewart-New York
88-Menards(Peak/Vavoline/Richmond)-Raven Qrow-DC
98-Arris-Tamur Delic-Bosnia
99-NOS Energy-Benoit Lothaire-Irvine(R)-France
Norsesport is a new team to the grid as the team comes from the European country of both Finland and Norway. Their sponsorship not too much. Veterans Tamur Delic and Raven Qrow join in for the better opprotunity. Joey Stewart to find a resurgence in his moderately fine carrer after winning in a underfunded machine last season. Rookie Benoit Lothaire-Irvine of France will be a high contender for Rookie of the Year. We'll see where things go.
Randy Cross Racing-Chevy
3-Bass Pro Shops-Chris Dodd-Puerto Rico
11-Mobil 1-Jackson Scott-Michigan
29-Budweiser-Dale Pressly-N.Carolina
31-Goodwrench-Chase Pressly-N.Carolina
'The Mind' Randy Cross returns with a reformed RCR for this season. Bringing young blood like Puerto Rican Chris Dodd and Michigan native Jackson Scott who brought potential, and kept his grandsons Dale and Chase Pressly in their 29 & 31 respectively. The later two making it to the Elimination 8 Round in the Playoffs. Cross believes by season's end, each driver will have a win. Will 'The Mind' be right?
Shock-Allison Racing-Ford
06-3M-Kyle Shock Jr.(R)-Michigan
26-National Guard-Kyle Shock Sr.-Michigan
36-Irwin Tools-Nick Pericles-Florida
46-AAA-Skyla Johnson-Colorado
Shock-Allison Racing returns for another season. Since 'Mr. Perfect' Kyle Shock Sr. will hang up the helmet after the season, his bright eyed son Kyle Shock Jr. will be brought in for his first full-time season. A wish son will wish to have with father the final go through. Floridian Nick Pericles signs in for the team as the veteran will try to make a charge for the championship. Daughter of Leon Johnson, Skyla will for the first time not join her teacher Jeffery Finguy in the Finguy-Psytomi Motorsports camp. Yet with FPM & SAR in a family bond, she found a new home here.
Finguy-Psytomi Motorsports-Ford
32-Canadian Tire-Sean Angel(R)-Canada
62-Stanley/DeWalt-James Shelly-Virginia
92-Gamestop-Jeffery Finguy-Michigan
Finguy-Psytomi Motorsports returns with a new face in their lineup. As said with Skyla, she will not return to the team. But that Canada's Favorite Son, Sean Angel will make his awaited debut in the IRLS. James Shelly made it to the Final Four as teammate Jeffery Finguy only made it to the Elimination 8. Missing the margin to Charles Sandfer by one point. Finguy who has a championship his sophomore year will surely be back in the hunt. As well as Shelly and Angel a serious threat for Rookie of the Year.
Maverick GP-Ford
6-Viagra-William Duncan-Arkansas
17-Exide-Jean Moreau-Canada
60-Grainger-Tylor Thaber-New Jersey
Before the season, French Canadian Jean Moreau and New Jersey's best Tylor Thaber signed in for Maverick GP and made the teams lineup a serious threat. Like Empire, this is a team that will be scary to deal with. All three had wins last season, all three made it into the Playoffs, but were eliminated in The 12 Round. We'll see where this team goes.
S3 Motorsports-Chevy
8-Quiznos-Morgan Tanner-Florida
24-Coca Cola-Charles Sandfer-California
33-Lucas Oil-Amy Shelly-Virginia
S3. A new look, and a new attitude. The team really wants to kick the season into overdrive. Charles Sandfer made it all to the Final 4 in the Playoffs but was wrecked out of it. Amy Shelly returns to try to get into the dance as Morgan Tanner tries to prove Eric Addams Rookie of the Year win was a fluke, which kinda was.
Red Bull Racing-Toyota
83-Red Bull Blue-Takumi Hirano-Japan
84-Red Bull Silv-Lafter Stucole-Spain
Red Bull Racing returns to the grid. The first international team comes into the season with Spaniard Lafter Stucole and the returning Japanese veteran Takumi Hirano. A good lineup for Red Bull this season as Takumi has a few wins under him. We'll see where they will go.
Legacy Enterprises-Dodge
7-7 Eleven-Aidan Shepherd(R)-Texas
43-STP-Scott Roush-Alabama
Legacy went all out trying to win the championship with owner Greg Harris, and he succeed beating out 16 others doing it. Now Harris has stepped out of the car and gives Scott Roush the keys to the 43. Roush has a lot of critics to silence as the season goes on. The now two car team adds Rookie and Texan Aidan Shepherd to the mix. We'll see where LE will go.
Team Enska-Ford
28-Texaco/Havoline-Brandon Jefferson-Massachussets
38-UPS-Tripontakio Vernio(R)-Greece
Team Esnka, the American/European team once again has an American & European driver in their mists. Brandon Jefferson the Mass native returns to another Ford team as he was axed from SAR. He must go into teaching mode with Rookie Tripontakio Verino. Let's hope it doesn't end in another pit road fight like last season with them gutting their drivers.
Kingfisher Motorsports-Toyota
74-Sahara/Kingfisher-Micheal Paganello(R)-Greece
76-Sahara/Kingfisher-Brad Lewis(R)-New Zealand
A very new team and two rookies to boot, Kingfisher Motorsports come to the grid from out of all places India. A first for most things as both Michael Paganello and Brad Lewis will come in and help see the team through. We'll see what luck comes from the team.
Stuttgart United Motors-Toyota
14-Petronas-Sofia Vargas-Argentina
The always fighting, always an underdog team, Stuttgart United is always that kind of team. Beginning after the season the IRLS was formed, it wasn't a season after they captured their first win by underdog means. The team still with their signature One car stable, the team was just a signature thing. This season brings Argentinian Sofia Vargas to the team to try and fight in this gladitorial fight with sheet metal. Will Stuttgart strike again? Time will tell.
Team Dixie-Dodge
01-Unsponsored-Alex Tanker-Iceland
The always southern favorite team, Team Dixie are the team beloved by the south of the United States. Until Alex Tanker came and put his countries native flag on the hood of the bright orange car. This basically made the fans mad. Will Tanker be redeemed? I wouldn't know. He's basically public enemy number one.
Varsity Motorsports-Chevy
07-Unsponsored/Varsity-Moshe Gurion-Israel
Israel's Moshe Gurion puts his money in the table and signs with Varsity Motorsports. Varsity like Stuttgart pulled off a win, but last year by everyone wrecking out of the IRSL 500 in 2014. Maybe luck might strike again for Moshe out of all things.
Team Sunrise Ford-Ford
9-Sunrise Ford-Mackenzy Cherry(R)-Alabama
Bright Alabaman native Mackenzy Cherry comes from her home to try to challenge the hollow grounds of the IRLS. Can a girl like her pull off an upset? Who knows. The future is bright with this one.
Mopar Motors-Dodge
00-Mopar-Amina Delic-Bosnia
Finally, we look to the Dodge powered team of Mopar Motors. The first season the group will have a non-American drive for the team. That being the sister to Tamur Delic, Amina. She has returned from her Rookie year after a season off. She's consistent. That's what the team needs.
Drivers, start conversing. We want your opinions on how the field might take form and shape. Who will walk away with the title as Champion? It's all about to change.

Re: IRLS MasterCard Championship Series: Season Preview: Teams & Drivers
By the way , why was Stucolé's win and Vernio's crew chief experience not noted?
Stucolé: "My team has given me a great oppurtunity the past 3 years to run with them and get a few wins along the way. With a new crew chief, though, it may make me have trouble finding that success I had the last two years. Come on, Kingrey, let's prepare for the inaugural race. It won't be long."
Vernio: "My experience with Stucolé should transfer over to racing myself as well. Though I have been stuck with a low-level team, I believe we can still pull a rabbit out of a hat. Let's go to Daytona race clean and get a good finish. Going now to get the car ready with Gonzalez and Kingrey."

Pericles:" I'm feeling great about this season, Racing with the Shocks who have been around. Could still learn things from Shock Sr. Though, new team but not new to league. I intend to win & contend for this championship this season. With a Team like This, I'm hoping that all four of us will be battling for it."
Paganello: "KingFisher isn't the fastest team, but we are looking to develop & run consistently. That's all you can ask from a Rookie & a small team."

Re: IRLS MasterCard Championship Series: Season Preview: Teams & Drivers
Pre Season Action
Before the field can get onto the track, the Annual MasterCard Chase for the Check Shootout is a must see. The only qualifications is that you must be in the Playoffs of the last season and be a full-time driver for next season. But a twist of two proportions. No Empires, and no Greg Harris. Harris, retired after his championship win, and Empire after their 'questionable' comments to the so called 'rigging' of said Playoff system. Again, all management. It comes down to really 10 drivers of the Playoffs. We'll see who will win, and the first win of the new season at Daytona.
Drivers Contending
#4-Tristan Wilhoit
#6-William Duncan
#17-Jean Moreau
#24-Charles Sandfer
#26-Kyle Shock Sr.
#29-Dale Pressly
#31-Chase Pressly
#46-Skyla Johnson
#62-James Shelly
#92-Jeffery Finguy

Gurion: "It's going to be an interesting year, and I am excited to work with this team. I just need to work hard, gain experience, and stay out of trouble all year, and we'll be alright!"
