2017 Qualifying Rules
For 2017, Qualifying will be the same as always. Top 35 Rule will be in place for Round 2-36. Round 2-4 will have Top 35 in Owner Points of 2016. Meaning cars from last years Owner Points will be locked into the races while the other cars Qualify in on speed. Round 5-36 will have 2017 Owner Points and have Go or Go Home Qualifying and then the field of 42 will qualify as well.
For the Daytona 500 however, we will have a different format. Since the 500 is a special event it will host its own different type of qualifying format. Qualifying of all the cars on the entry list will go out for 1 lap of qualifying in single car runs. Odd number qualifiers will line up in Duel 1, Even number qualifiers will line up in Duel 2, and in the Duel races the Top 14 finishers (not including the front row starters) will race their way into the big race and set the 3rd through 30nd starting positions. Drivers with a fast qualifying speed can fall back on positions 31rd-36th and drivers with cars high in last season owner points can fall back on positions 37th-41st starting positions and if we have a past champion not already locked in, the most recent one gets the 42nd starting position. However if we do not have a past champion the 42nd starting spot goes to the next driver to get in by last years owner points.

Re: 2017 Qualifying Rules
I like the format. I would personally have it be 36 so it would be even but 35 is cool.

Roush; Damn. I am going to have to race in. I am probably not going to make it on speed unless I put in another blazin' lap like I did at Daytona in HNS. Thanks to Chris for the HNS ride!

Tauger: Well, if I'm going to retire at the end of the season, I might as well benefit both the team and I.

Re: 2017 Qualifying Rules
It should be solely based on the duels and speed. None of this, "if you did well last year you can get in the Daytona 500 crap!" LOL

But the top-35 rule for rounds 2-4 do this as well?
I'm perfectly fine with this format. It wouldn't make sense for the defending champion to miss the field because of a silly crash in the duels.
Re: 2017 Qualifying Rules
The Daytona 500 format of making the race was strictly focused on if you lay down the top 2 speeds in qualifying in single car runs, you lock yourself into the race by having the front row starting positions of the biggest race of the year. You will need to race your way in. Top 15 finishers (not including the front row starters) get into the race. The rest of the starting spots get filled by drivers who were good in qualifying that maybe wrecked in the duels or didn't have a good run in the duel, they'd get in on speed. Teams who did good in points last year who also didn't do good in qualifying or the duel can rely on Owner Points to take the final spots if they are high enough in points. Past champions are very well respected in our league. If you win a title you've done something right in your career. That's a big accomplishment, if you're trying and can't make it on speed, racing, or points we will give you the provisional. Always.
OOC: My prediction is if you can qualify inside the Top 25 and your car is Top 25 in last years Owner Points I think you're safe to get in off speed/points.

Roush: We need to pull a rabbit out of our hat, a big surprise, at Daytona. I also have a team racing in HNS that needs to do well. Like I said though we need to be the upset of the season. Myatt is trying to race as well. I hope he doesn't spoil not only my race, but my whole season. It'll be fun though seeing the old man get off his couch.
