Takeaways from Practice 1 at Texas:
The rookies looked really calm out there on track. They were given ninety minutes and none of them wrecked.

While Beka Moss looks slow on the speed chart, she is actually one of the faster rookies, and one of the first to master tire management. Her twenty lap average seems to suggest that she will be one of the drivers to watch out for on a longer run.

Among the slower cars in practice were Rob Mooney and Kyle Patterson. No one really understood why, Mooney even has a Cup win! They were on a longer tire cycle than most, and that shows a potential fatal flaw in their race strategy.

Alexia Wise showed her extreme pace in practice pacing it with her 26.3. As she has prior NMGAR experience in the now-defunct Goodyear Cup, she was expected to be one of the top rookies.

And veterans testing at Texas was led by Sally Hunter.

Umpenkalen and Bright will take part in the Miller Utah practice Monday, all others will be at the Daytona practice.

Takeaways:

Beka Moss again appears slow. As we have said, though, she is really good on a longer tire run.

Carl Dawson is likely to be one of the best rookies this season. In the Dunkin Donuts Series he has the most wins among active drivers, and has shown great pace in practice with 4th and 2nd place results. He will win before Season 10.

Sally Hunter and the Champions Racing team have found speed through the offseason. The team is on a roll after PH Williams and Dumindu's late-season wins and the acquisition of Roman Rehall. This team may be here this year to give us a multi time champion for the first time since the Goodyear Cup days.

TGD Racing Vernio Tech needs to step up their game. They come to the track and are slower than Beka Moss. How???

The ClimberTech team is looking sporty on track with their two Target Hudelson cars from years past. But the team needs to find speed, as their highest driver is Ike Gonzalez in 7th, then Kendall in 22nd. This team may have trouble keeping up their winning ways if Ike Gonzalez doesn't do anything this season.

WestFall is looking like a genuine contender now. Freeze got third on speed, showing great strides have been made over the offseason for this team.

The best team on the grid currently appears to be Quick Shift Racing after getting both drivers into the top dozen in practice.

Thanks for the encouragement. Thornton has been permanently banned from the CTRS since Shepperd's crash.

Roberts and Jackson just ran single car runs in practice, thus they did not set any really fast laps.
The leader Sally Hunter was also the winner of the initial practice at Texas, so that team will be very strong to start off Season 9.

Caution 1: Alexia Wise, who started 10th and was running 18th at the time, gets taken out with 17th place Lethinen, 19th place Jackson, and 20th place Shepherd.
Caution 2: The Big One happens on pit road.
Caution 3: Heather Stucole spins from 4th.
Caution 4: Lukewalker gets turned by the 52 of Martin, Gonzalez turns Stucole, many cars retire including Bright and Lukewalker.
Caution 5: Huge crash in Turn 2 takes out all of the TGD Vernio Tech cars. Luca Icks should have been more patient with Mooney.
Caution 6: LaPlante gets flipped over by McFarland after turning Tripey.
Caution 7: Tripey takes flight.
Finish: As Luca Icks takes 4th from Ike Gonzalez, Charlie Jackson wins at Pikes Peak!
