PJ Williams returns to full-time Cup competition in 2018
PJ Williams joined the Sony Cup Series in Season 11 and was a full time driver each season until Season 15. Williams is one of the 99 different drivers that has won a race in the Cup Series back in Season 14 at South Boston and Season 15 at Eldora. Williams' Cup career was cut short heading into the off season of Season 16...
PJ Williams' last Cup start was the Season 15 Finale... Williams was originally signed on to drive in Season 16 with the same team he drove in Season 15. Season 15 was a good season for Williams as he finished 9th in the overall standings and was a legitimate title contender. However, plans fell through for Williams to drive the #8 car in Season 16 when the team decided to pick up young hot shoe of Zachary Fitzwater to drive their race car.
Williams was unable to find a ride back into the series for the following few seasons and returned to lower tier racing divisions until this past year when he got the call from Athenian Motorsports to return to Sony Cup Series' lower tier racing division. Williams drove the #55 Chevy to a Top 10 finish in the points and nearly won a few races. The same team he drove in HNS signed him on for 2018 to drive in the Cup Series for the first time in 7 Seasons!
The climb back to the top wasn't an easy one but once given a chance to return to HNS, Williams proved he still has it and the old school veteran of the series looks for his return in 2018 in the Cup Series.
