American - [Signups Closed] 1999 American Champ Car Series Empty [Signups Closed] 1999 American Champ Car Series

Post by BugattiNightRide March 8th 2018, 11:21 pm

The main thing that put me down on making a series was having to paint all the cars because nobody had the interests to paint for a random new series. This is why all of my series have ate (censorship). I am now deciding to put actual commitment into this.

This series is based off the former CART (Championship Auto Racing Teams) series that ran supreme in the 1980s and 1990s. Whenever we get 25 vehicles, we will start. We are using the Indycar Racing 1.1 mod.

Team Signup Rules: 1-3 vehicles per team. Numbers must be 00-99. If you would like to paint your car, that is perfectly fine. Just be aware to turn it in by messaging the car to me on Discord or this for.  um by April 1, 2018. Also, I would like you guys to fill your sponsors for me in the order from primary, secondary, tertiary. (Left to right) Here is an example on how I want your team to look as a post on the forum.
Sunburst Motorsport:
#10 - (insert driver name) [Primary, Secondary, Tertiary]
#14 - (insert driver name) [Primary, Secondary, Tertiary]

SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED!

Driver Signup Rules: Considering how popular Champ Car got in its days, I will accept any rational nationality no matter what the circumstance is. Please no joke drivers. Two drivers per user. Drivers must have ratings with them. Here is an example on how I want the ratings set up.

If you guys could type in 1-3 sponsors for each car, that would be splendid. I realized the templates aren't as bad too use as I would have thought. I will paint your car over these sponsors. The primary sponsor will be the first sponsor you type. (Sponsor farthest on the left)

RECAP OF THE 1998 AMERICAN CHAMP CAR SERIES SEASON

The 1998 was a very poor season for the American Champ Car Series that resulted in a massive dropping of popularity and economy for the company. The reason for this was because of the Indy Racing Championship's (The ACCS's rival series) success in the year following many reasons.

Early in the year, the ACCS continued strong. Rounds 1-4 were all fairly clean and decently exciting. Race 1 of Phoenix was won by Riku Fujimoto after a pit strategy that extended his fuel a few laps more than his other opponents to make him able to coast across the finish line the winner. Race 2 of Mexico City was won by Philip Scott after passing Luiz Sousa Cardoso with only three laps to go to become the winner of the Grand Prix of Mexico. This was especially strange considering that Philip Scott's roots were dirt track racing. Race 3 of Twin Ring Motegi was won by J.F. Finguy after passing the hometown hero Riku Fujimoto on the front straightaway coming to the final lap. William Duncan had some unfortunate luck, though, after his left rear tire blew and hit the Turn 2 wall massively on Lap 27. He would be cleared to race next week. Race 4 of Texas Motor Speedway was a surprisingly clean race as action would be to a minimum after Lafter Stucolé would lose the car in Turn 1, save it, and would break the pack away. The race was dominated by Julio Cesar, leading all the laps in the event.

After Round 4 of the ACCS, the Indy Racing Championship would start their season. Race 1 of their season would start at Texas Motor Speedway, coincidentally after the ACCS event. The race was a sure thriller. Paul Cross would lead the race early but would fall back down after the gearbox would unfortunately break down on track, leading to a yellow flag. After many laps of pure aggression, Randall Smith would go on to win the race by half a car length. There would be no race incidents during the event.

A week after the IRC event, the ACCS would go on to Portland International Raceway for the running of the Grand Prix of Oregon. The race for most viewers was unfortunately a bore-fest, as Luiz Sousa Cardoso dominated the event. Race 6 of the ACCS season was the Grand Prix of Queensland in Australia. The race was going pretty well and the action was relatively common until ten laps to go. With 10 laps to go, the weather started pouring rain all over the race track. The leader, who was Riku Fujimoto, attempted to race the rest of the race in tires not crafted for wet weather. Coming off the front straightaway, he completely missed the early corner complexes, jumping over the curbs and crashing hard into the wall. This would completely block the track, causing a red flag. Because of the conditions getting worse and worse, the race was called to end there. William Duncan's bad luck streak would end right there as he was the car 2nd to Fujimoto, giving Duncan the race win. Unfortunately, this would majorly damage ACCS's credibility.

After this event, the IRC headed down to Homestead, Florida for the race at Homestead Miami Speedway. This event was a great one, as there was a total of 41 passes for the lead. Nathan Croswell and Ryan Fitzgerald swapped the lead until the reached the final lap, where Randall Smith would make a pass going three wide on the back straightaway. Randall Smith would get the upper ground and win by half a car length to Nathan Croswell.

The ACCS would head down to Brazil to race at Jacarepaguá for Race 7. Luckily for ACCS, they would finally get a great race going as Phillip Scott, J.F. Finguy, William Karlsson Sr., and Joakim Hentula would battle for the win left-and-right. The Swedish driver of Joakim Hentula would win the race by .022 seconds. The rest of the races for ACCS would not follow in this race's direct footsteps. Race 8 at Road America was a decent one, as Audra Baranauskas would win after her teammate, Julio Cesar, would bottle his winning performance by misjudging the braking zone in Turn 1 and running himself off the course for a seventh place finish. Race 9 was also a decent race, as J.F. Finguy would achieve victory after the slow HHSR car of Lafter Stucolé would unfortunately hold up the leader, Riku Fujimoto, to lose the race as Finguy got around Riku with two-to-go.

Now it was IRC's third and second-to-last race in the championship. Most important of all, though, was that it was the Indianapolis 250. The whole weekend was crazy. A total of 39 drivers entered the event as six did not make it. A big story was that the leader of the IRC Championship, Randall Smith,  would spin his car out in Turn 2, hit the wall tremendously, and not make the race. Nathan Croswell would lead the field to the green in the 1998 Indianapolis 250. It was a candidate for the craziest race of the year in all motorsports. Nathan Croswell would lose grip in Turn 1 and slide up the track, letting Carl Fisher lead early. On lap 19, a crash in the back would take out five of the seven one-off competitors and surprisingly no one in the championship. Carl Fisher lead on the restart as Nathan Croswell took his lead back. Soon, Ryan Fitzgerald would gain speed off of the back straightaway getting a draft off of Croswell and would attempt to go for the lead heading into Turn 3 on Lap 45. Croswell did not know he was not clear and ran right into the nose of Ryan Fitzgerald's vehicle heading into Turn 3. They would both slide up and hit the wall, collecting Carl Fisher, who was sitting third. Paul Cross lead the field to the Green on Lap 52. On Lap 61, he would experience his second gearbox failure of the season and fail to finish the race. Laura Weller, the only female driver in the field, would lead the race. On Lap 79, a crash took out four cars. It was relatively minor like the Lap 19 crash, but all cars still retired. On Lap 85, Laura Weller lead on the restart ahead of one of the two remaining one-off cars. Bobby Trenton, a 54-year-old out of Kentucky, had a chance to win the Indianapolis 250. Laura Weller and Bobby Trenton battled until Lap 95, when they both made contact and wrecked off of Turn 4 hard. They would be fine and everyone else would avoid them. Eric Kernall lead the field to the green on a 1-lap-dash to the finish. The car behind him made a desperate move to the inside and took the lead. That was Ian Sanders. Ian Sanders would lead off of Turn 4, but his left rear tire would go down on the front straightaway. This would result him crashing on the frontstretch to the finish line. He would win in a damaged #09.

The ACCS would also be going to their crown event during the same time. 28 cars entered the event, an all-time low for the race as only three one-off cars raced. Because of this, there were no knockouts in qualifying. The big news was a practice crash that destroyed the series credibility massively. Off of Turn 2, Joakim Hentula was side-by-side with Pat Monaco Sr. with Joakim on the outside. Pat Monaco Sr.'s right front suspension collapsed, which turned him into Joakim Hentula at 231mph. Joakim Hentula's car instantly jerked left after being hooked and was starting to tip on it's side. Unfortunately for Joakim, the vehicle hit the grass at over 200mph and disintegrated, rolling many times with many pieces all over the grass on the backstretch. Medical officials ran all over the track to find the actual cockpit of the car. After seven minutes, they finally reached his car. Joakim Hentula was barely alive. They extracted him from the car and lifted him on a helicopter to the nearest hospital. The practice session was ended early. Hours later, the team owner of Joakim Hentula, who was Riku Fujimoto, was told that Joakim Hentula was in critical condition and might never race again. Because of this, Fujimoto needed to find a driver for the rest of the season and probably for the series in general. He met Aidan Shepherd after a semi-near Mid-Ohio endurance race took place.

At this time, Aidan Shepherd was a 22-year-old endurance racing driver who raced in the American Endurance Championship for three years and was runner-up for the GT1 Championship the last two of those years. Aidan Shepherd also had partnerships with the company Texaco because of his performance in the AEC. Riku Fujimoto thought it would be a splendid idea to hire somebody with racing patience (because of his experience in endurance racing) and great sponsorship. Fujimoto offered Shepherd the contract. Shepherd accepted the contract because his level of interest to drive in open-wheel racing.

Anyway, during the U.S. 250 qualifying, Philip Scott scored the pole by a tenth of a second over J.F. Finguy. Unfortunately for the ACCS banner, the race was not only another bore-fest, but a crash-fest as only 13 cars finished the race. The winner would be William Karlsson Sr. after escaping the vast amount of incidents and being the best tuned car in the field. The first-timer, Aidan Shepherd, would get 4th on his first start.

Sadly for the ACCS, the rest of the races were absolutely boring and/or crashfesty. The Grand Prix of Canada was won by J.F. Finguy by a mile. The Grand Prix of New York was the most decent race heading to the finale, but still won easily by Luiz Sousa Cardoso. The Round of New Hampshire was won by Philip Scott after the race ended when William Duncan made contact with Lafter Stucolé's rear tire, which sent Duncan upside down. The Milwaukee Mile race was also won by Philip Scott after passing Aidan Shepherd who was attempting to win his first open-wheel race. The race at Laguna Seca was an utter crashfest just at corner one, when Brenna Carmichael lost her braking zone and flew over J.F. Finguy's rear-end and over the pack in front into the sand on the outside of the layout. She would surprisingly be perfectly fine, which helped the ACCS's credibility not plummet anymore. Unfortunately for J.F. Finguy, this probably costed him the title. After the shenanigans took place, it was a simple race of strategy. Aidan Shepherd put his endurance racing experience to storm and won the Grand Prix of Central California at Laguna Seca for his first ever open-wheel win.

Right before the ACCS finale, though, was the IRC finale at the Phoenix International Raceway.
The championship leader was Eric Kernall. Behind him was Ryan Fitzgerald and Nathan Croswell by twenty points. All Eric had to do was get a top 5 and no matter what he would win it. Unfortunately for Eric, right before the start his gearbox would grenade. Honda would suffer another gearbox issue, and unfortunately this time for a championship. Nathan Croswell started on the pole and Ryan Fitzgerald started 3rd. The race was mostly clean until the finish. Nathan Croswell lead almost all the laps. Coming to two-to-go, Nathan Croswell cut a tire and saved it but had to pit. All Ryan had to do was coast down to the finish, and he did. Ryan Fitzgerald came off the final corner to finish second behind Laura Weller, but first in the championship.

Heading into the finale, Philip Scott was many points ahead. All he had to do was score a top 10 and it didn't matter what J.F. did. Luckily for the ACCS banner, the race was decent, with 20 passes for the lead. Philip Scott came off the final corner to win the race, though, and ultimately win the championship by almost a full-race points.

Unfortunately, the 1998 season for the American Champ Car Series was a disaster. They began to los4 some of their big sponsors after this, and they also lost all of their major chassis providers because they switched over to the Indy Racing Championship. Because of this, all of the cars will be unintentionally spec. Hopefully the 1999 season will be one to remember, if not, the ACCS will be a series to forget.
