Another new one off race qualifying system proposed Empty Another new one off race qualifying system proposed

Qualifying has been a big talk of the paddock here at Watkins Glen. With ARCSOA reluctantly agreeing that qualifying will go back to the way it was this season, the focus has shifted to the one off races. The new proposed system is something called, combination qualifying. The way it works is, qualifying is split up into three sessions. Half of the field will be put into session #1, and the other half in session #2. The top 21 cars from each session then are given spots in the race. Session #3 begins with the 42 cars going out one at a time for a SINGLE Flying lap with the track to themselves. Their single car run will be added on top of their Session #1 or #2 run.

ARCSOA CEO Kayla Tonney stated, "Pretty much, once hot laps begin, we start with their fastest lap from the first session on the board and add to it. So qualifying times will be somewhere around 60 seconds lets say for Fontana because we are taking it over the course of two laps rather than one. That way, we have a 'draft lap' and a 'how fast your car actually is' lap combined."

The system will go to a vote some time next year. Other proposals are still being considered!
