2018 Round 16: Michigan

Post by DKurtis on August 14th 2018, 5:10 pm

It's a double header weekend for Michigan, where both the Cup Series and Hardee's National Series drivers will take on the classic 2 miler. It's wide turns and multiple grooves can help drivers find what their car may fit in terms of the changing conditions on the track. Jake West comes off from a victory at Iowa, how will the #4 fare here? TJ Martin is looking to find redemption after getting his win stolen, what will he do? The others are looking to try and catch the top 2 in the championship, but time is gradually running out.

Michigan officials have noted that this will be the first time we will be seeing Michigan under the lights, so it may be interesting to see how the drivers can handle night time conditions on the track.

Results and Recap of the Race:
Due to some issues with the cameras, the footage for Michigan has been lost (but they are in the process of recovering it), but the race itself proved to be a chaotic one with 6 cautions on the track. Jake West, who was leading the points coming in, would finish dead last after crashing out early. TJ Martin also struggled throughout the race and would finish 19th. John Arndt also tried to capitalise, but he himself also experienced issues and would finish 37th. Sean Harple, the 2016 champion, returned to the #5 seat, but he himself would get taken out of the race, finishing 27th.

The Fords of James Richardson and Aidan Shepherd dominated the Michigan race, with Shepherd prevailing as the winner of the event, with Sean Angel finishing second, giving Rodriguez Racing a 1-2 finish. It is Shepherd's second win of the season, and the second victory for Rodriguez Racing as a team. The points have gotten tighter and tighter, and with the races winding down, the drivers outside of Jake West and TJ Martin in the points standings have seen this as an opportunity to pounce on their issues, and they indeed took it. The drivers will head to Kentucky, as it's new surface and one lane notoriety could plague those when on the outside.
