Jimmie Johnson won the 2016 Sprint Unlimited at Daytona. It's his second Unlimited win, his first since 2005. Johnson entered Turn 3 on the final lap in 4th place and came to the Checker flag with the win. Paul Menard and A.J. Allmendinger were battling for the lead and win entering turn 3 until Jamie McMurray made it 3 wide by going in between Menard and Allmendinger. McMurray made contact with Allmendinger, sending him down into Menard, which takes Menard out of the race. With Allmendinger losing his momenum by going into the grass and coming back up the track in front of McMurray, Johnson had enough steam to get by McMurray and Allmendinger entering the tri-oval and Jimmie Johnson won the 2016 Sprint Unlimited. Some early crashes took out some heavy contenders like Joey Logano and Kasey Kahne. Chase Elliott who was making his debut with HMS made contact with Martin Truex Jr and Dale Earnhardt Jr and getting severe damage and ruining his shot at a victory.
