The May 29th 1261.734 Thread Empty The May 29th 1261.734 Thread

Post by f1fan May 23rd 2016, 11:26 am

Sunday, May 29th is the Motorsports equivalent to Christmas! Three of the largest races in the world will take place, all on one day.

First up is the Grand Prix of Monte-Carlo. Where 22 of the worlds best open wheelers take on the narrow and daunting streets of Monte-Carlo. The streets lined with the rich and the famous. A marina full of yachts, food that would put one of us into bankruptcy after one meal. Monte-Carlo is one of the premier Motorsports events! The race can be seen in America at 8:00 AM on NBC

Second is the SUPER-BOWL of ALL MOTORSPORTS! The Indianapolis 500 beckons. Man and machine are tested in the most daring motorsports event in the world. The most important race in the entire world will challenge 33 of the bravest drivers in the world. More importantly, all eyes are on this race, because it is the 100th running of the race. IndyCar realizes that if they get this race right, they will set themselves up for a huge increase in future success! The most important race of the year, is going to have quite possibly its most important running since 1911! The Race can be seen at 11:00 AM On ABC!

The final race of the weekend is the Coke 600 at Charlotte. This is NASCAR's longest race. While I fully expect the race to be crap compared to the other two, I still suggest everyone watch the race. I know I will try to watch all three. Race can be seen at 6:00 PM on Fox!

So, WHO ON THIS FORUM CAN LAST ALL 1261 miles? Who will take the challenge of watching the entire day of racing. I know I will attempt, you should too.

I'll try to watch the Indy 500(if they dare go to a nighttime race, there will be riots in Indy...) and the #World600, but there is no way I'm watching the most boring race in all of motorsports(Sorry Razz ). The only time I ever watched Monaco was when my family was staying in a hotel overnight several years ago. Turned it on, and in the very first corner, like 6 guys wrecked, and there was this big red flag. Then we had to leave the hotel, so I didn't watch any more of it Razz...

Go Helio in Indy and Dale Jr in Charlotte!

I normally skip Monaco since I like to sleep in but this year I am looking to change that, according to my guide (unless I am looking at a rerun) the last hour of Monaco overlaps with the 1st hour of Indy so I have my DVR set to record that last hour so I can probably watch it between Indy and Charlotte were there is normally a bit of time.

My dad was deployed to Monaco for a short while and got to see the track. I barely have time for Monaco but I can definitely watch the Indy and Charlotte races.

I still think Monaco should have stayed on Saturday because drivers could then attempt all 3

Would probably have to be an F1 driver since F1 traditionally avoids part-time drivers. Were it would be cool I do not see it since I doubt any F1 driver would want to do the 600, Raikkonen or maybe Ricciardo are the only ones I can see who would even consider a stock car oval race let alone all 3.

Watched the first 16 laps of Monaco before church happened. Saw the entire Indy 500 and it was a sweet race. Right now on lap 68 of the Coca-Cola 600.

One driver has managed to win the "Triple Crown", and that was Graham Hill. What is the Triple Crown, you ask?

F1 had good racing in the rain, but Hamilton won.
Indycar was lit, and we had Rossi win as an upset.
I honestly want to see a first time winner for the 600. If not, Truex.

F1 = Fun, but obvious winner
Indy = Was fun, but everyone had a chance at the win which to me is just a little boring.
NASCAR = Not fun, but a completely dominate performance that we might never see again.

^Bias as hell. You never like a NASCAR race.
Here's the fact though. You can't fault Martin. He did something that hadn't been done since the 60s. He was absolutely on point. That is impressive for 600 miles. It would still be impressive if it was 500. Yes it might of been on the biggest day in motorsports, but again he had that car just right, and did a hell of a job. It might of been boring, but you can't deny that's more of an accomplishment than a F1 driver winning the Indy 500.

I'll say this: It doesn't matter what rules package they would have used, Truex still would have ran away with that race, and his team for once didn't make any mistakes. At the end of the day, it was still a really good day of racing, and hopefully next year each racing series can improve and make it even more exciting!

Monaco GP = Awesome rain race were sadly Hamilton won.

Indianapolis 500 = Lived up to its hype, and had a shock upset winner in Alexander Rossi. Quite frankly could be the race of the century.

Coke 600 = Predictably crap. Maybe if they ran 600 miles on a half ways decent track, it wouldn't be such a crap race! Truex did murder everyone though, which was hilarious as hell!

As predicted, The Indianapolis 500 murdered both the other two races. Monaco was a bit better then I thought simply because weather made it fun. I knew the Coke 600 would be boring, but not that boring. I don't think it was boring because Truex was miles in front of everyone, it was boring because there wasn't passing ANYWHERE. If I had my way, Charlotte Motor Speedway would be obliterated and rebuilt as something better. Because quite frankly it is the worst track NASCAR runs on. (Indianapolis is a close second)

Charlotte is a great track. As well it's on Memorial Day for a reason Scott. Here's the thing the racing was awesome last weekend for the All-Star. What changed? The All-Star race gave drivers and teams a chance to adapt their cars to the track. Furniture Row adapted the best. Otherwise it might of been like last week. I think if anything should be moved it's the All-Star and maybe to a track that's not on schedule.

Slept through Monaco unfortunately

Really great Indy 500, really happy to see not just a 1st time winner but a complete underdog story

I honestly fell asleep during the middle part of the 600. From what I saw it was an ok race and were I do not like seeing one guy steal the show, the fact it was someone like Truex made it ok although I would be a bit happier about it if he was still in a Chevy. It was a significant night that we probably will not see again even though it may have not have been so exciting.
