Round 23 of Watkins Glen
We will be heading back to Watkins Glen for the first time since Season 3! We have only raced here twice ever however these drivers will take on this track and treat it much like our some of the new tracks on the schedule. We are expecting this race to be rather similar to the Philippines and we can't wait to see how these drivers do on Watkins Glen again. With D.J. Kurtis getting the heat from Jeff James in the points standings as James sits on 5 points behind Kurtis, he knows this is his shot at trying to extend the point lead and keep Jeff James back in the title mix. This title hunt is trying to build up. Only 14 races remain and the Top 10 all still have a legit shot of possibly making a come back but the Top 5 look like our main contenders at this point!
FUEL's Picks For This Weekend!
Green Flag Pick: Charlie Smith
Charlie Smith is my green flag pick because he has a Top 20 finish in all the road course finishes this year and finished inside the Top 5 at the Philippines. He's got an average finish of 13th on the road courses this season which is higher than some of our top drivers in the series. His best finish in the series came on a road course when he finished 2nd in 2015. I feel Smith is one of our under rated road course ringers and will finish the race and be a solid driver on Sunday.
White Flag Pick: Jeffery Finguy
Jeffery Finguy has two podium finishes on the road courses this year and finished solid at Cleveland. He didn't do well in the rain at Canadian Tire but as long as rain is not a factor I expect Finguy to be a Top 10 driver and a driver that'll run very strong and have a shot to win. He's got an average finish this year on the road courses of 9th so look for Finguy to be a threat at the Glen.
Checkered Flag Pick: D.J. Kurtis
This one should come as no surprise to anyone. D.J. Kurtis has always been solid on road courses but add in his ability to run well there compared to some other people along with how good Cyberton Motorsports has been this year in their program... Kurtis has been untouchable taking 3 wins of the 4 road course races this year and in the rain race at Canadian Tire, D.J. Kurtis finished 2nd. He has an average finish of 1st this year in the road courses. He's going to be hard to beat at the Glen.
Black Flag Pick: Nick Mace
This one may come off as a surprise as considering how good Nick Mace has been and always has been on road courses however lets soak this in for a moment... Nick Mace has won only ONE road course race EVER in the Sony Cup Series despite leading many laps and finishing Top 5 several times on these types of tracks. Nick Mace this year has an average finish of 34th on the road courses. He has not done well at all on these types of tracks this year. I don't see Nick Mace being flashy at Watkins Glen. I don't see this as a track for Mace to get turn his luck around after blowing up at Indy.

Haddix and Bunnell both predict Nick Mace

You better watch out. Now that I know we're racing on my home turf, I have lots of extra motivation!

Re: Round 23 of Watkins Glen
My team and I have done promotions around WNY restaurants and car dealerships, visiting hometown friends and family at the same time. Pumped to do good things today with the team.

Rough luck for the Fisher Motorsports drivers today, Fisher needed up wrecking out and Nevins finishes 30th a lap down. But congrats to the race winner! Can't wait for next season wink wink

Got driven into the barrier by Commons on lap one, but my crew was sharp today and gave me a solid strategy to earn a decent 17th-place finish at home.

Re: Round 23 of Watkins Glen
Finally my CURSE ends at the Glen. The 54 race Winless Streak snapped. Win #5. It was an emotional Victory. Glad i gave the 8 car back in Victory Lane.

Kurtis: "We had an excellent run in the #19 KTM Ford today, I am happy to see Fitzwater in victory lane, that's pretty cool to see a winless streak get broken. 3rd is satisfactory for me, and points are important, so that's the big picture."
